Cute or not? Baby white-naped mangabey

This is Conchita. She is only the second white-naped mangabey to be born in the UK.

Conchita was born at the London Zoo in April, 2008.

Clever monkey

One of two spider monkeys recently added to the Washington Park Zoo broke out of its enclosure this week while workers were cleaning the moat, which had been emptied of water. The spider monkey used a garden hose to scale the wall of the moat.

Zoo Director Johnny Martinez says workers had figured the monkeys would remain inside their enclosure during the cleaning despite the lack of water in the moat to act as a barricade.

Once past the moat, the escaped monkey jumped onto the roof of a water filtration plant and then visited a local boat dealership. The monkey was sitting on top of a white and blue speedboat when captured.

Monkeys Escape From Wildlife Facility

A troupe of African monkeys are on the loose after escaping from a remote wildlife facility north of Tampa.

Officials at Safari Wild say it may take more than a week to round up all the patas monkeys that ran away on Saturday.

The monkeys live on a one-acre island that is surrounded by an eight-foot-deep moat. Officials say one female monkey with a baby on her back swam across the moat Saturday, and the other monkeys followed.

The animals arrived Thursday from Puerto Rico, by Saturday, they had vanished.

Heart disease hits zoo gorillas

Gorillas in zoos around the nation, particularly males and those in their 20s and 30s, have been falling ill - and sometimes dying suddenly - of heart disease.

The stunning deaths of otherwise healthy apes have zookeepers scrambling to understand what factors may be causing the illnesses and what might be done to save the 368 lowland gorillas that now reside in 52 zoos across North America.

Ape experts have established the Gorilla Health Project, looking to track rates of heart disease and death among gorillas in captivity.

Another rare monkey baby birth

Only the 12th of its species in a zoo in the United States, this crested capuchin was born last week at the Santa Ana Zoo.


Zookeepers don't know the baby's sex yet - but it sure is a little cutie!

Rare monkey born at the Houston Zoo

A Schmidt's red-tailed guenon was born at the Houston Zoo. It's the first birth of the species at the zoo in 29 years.

According to the zoo, there are only 37 of the monkeys living in ten zoos in the United States.

Joke: The Crash Site

A police officer came upon a terrible car crash where two people had been killed. As he looked at the wreckage a little monkey came out of the brush and hopped around the crashed car. The officer looked down at the monkey and said, "I wish you could talk."

The monkey looked up at the officer and nodded his head.

"You can understand what I'm saying?"asked the officer.

Again, the monkey nodded.

"Well, did you see what happened?"

The monkey nodded. He pretended to have a can in his hand and turned it up to his mouth.

"They were drinking?" asked the officer.

The monkey nodded. The monkey then pinched his fingers together and held them to his mouth, sucking deeply.

"They were smoking marijuana too?" asked the officer.

The monkey nodded. He made a sexual sign with his fingers

"So they were playing around as well!?" asked the astounded officer.

Again, the monkey nodded.

"Now wait, you're saying your owners were drinking, smokiing and playing around before they wrecked the car?"

The monkey nodded.

"What were you doing during all this?" asked the officer.

The monkey held up his hands on an imaginary steering wheel.
