An unusual friendship
The baby kangaroo should have not survived the road accident that claimed its mother...but then along came Rex the wonder dog.
The 10-year-old dog - a cross between a German shorthaired and wirehaired pointer - and the four-month-old joey are now friends.

Knute: Addicted to love?
Germany's celebrity polar bear Knut has become so addicted to the limelight that he throws tantrums when he's denied an audience, one of his keepers says.
Berlin Zoo's Markus Roebke has told British newspapers that Knut howls with anger when he feels like he's not getting enough attention.
Roebke says Knut needs to be moved to another zoo, away from the public eye. "Knut must go and the sooner the better," he said. "As long as he is with us he will always think of Thomas Doerflein, the keeper who brought him up when he was a baby, as his father. Knut needs publicity and that must change,"

What They Say About Dogs
A few quotes about dogs:
"If dogs could talk it would take a lot of the fun out of owning one." - Andy Rooney
It would be so cool if dogs could talk. We'd finally discover what they thought about life and humans -- surprising, I'm sure.
"I've seen a look in dogs' eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts." - John Steinbeck
Yes, we're nuts, but dogs are far too loyal and loving to feel contempt. Of course, if they could talk then we'd know for sure.
"If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater...suggest that he wear a tail." - Fran Lebowitz
Well, if you're a regular reader, you know how I feel about that.

Stephen Wiltshire: The Human Camera
Stephen Wiltshire has been called the "Human Camera." In this short excerpt from the film Beautiful Minds: A Voyage into the Brain, Wiltshire takes a helicopter journey over Rome and then draws a panoramic view of what he saw, entirely from memory.
Isolated Island House in Norway
This is a perfect place for everyone who loves privacy.
This beautiful house is completely cut off from the mainland. Nothing unusual so far, it’s not like there haven’t been any houses built on islands before, but this house practically spreads across the whole island, you go out the door and you find yourself swimming. I wonder how this house close to Oslofjord Islands was built. It’s nice if you can’t stand neighbors though!

An agouti in a blanket
Staff at the Newquay Zoo have been waiting for two years for their only breeding agouti couple to mate.
And the wait finally paid off when the two tiny creatures, which are the smallest of the ten agouti species in the world, were born three weeks ago. They are the first hairy rump - or black-backed - agouti to be born in the UK.

This is fast evolution?
Scientists have pinned down the fastest-known evolving animal — a "living dinosaur" called a tuatara.
Researchers found that although tuatara have remained largely unchanged physically over very long periods of evolution, they are evolving — at a DNA level — faster than any other animal yet examined.

Cute little Zebra Mouse
I found this charming little guy at a website, Furry Critters, which is full of information, pictures, and forums about hamsters, rats and mice.
A word of warning about the Picture Gallery: there is just way, way too much to look at there - you might be lost for hours looking at photos.

Harley vs Semi Truck & I live to talk about it
On March 30th 2005, I was in a horrible motorcycle accident where I was run over by a semi truck (yes, you read it right…run over). I came close to being with my "Father". During the first few months there were many complications. Even to this day, doctors tell me that I am a “very unique and complicated" case. I spent almost 2 years in bed trying to save my leg but January of this year the doctors took it. I’m actually better off and get around on crutches.

After Ice Rain in South China
Joke: The chicken and the horse
On the farm lived a chicken and a horse, both of whom loved to play together. One day the two were playing, when the horse fell into a bog and began to sink. Scared for his life, the horse whinnied for the chicken to go get the farmer for help! Off the chicken ran, back to the farm.
Arriving at the farm, he searched and searched for the farmer to no avail, for he had gone to town with the only tractor. Running around, the chicken spied the farmer's new Harley. Finding the keys in the ignition, the chicken sped off with a length of rope, hoping he'd be in time to save his friend's life.
Back at the bog, the horse was surprised, but happy, to see the chicken arrive on the shiny Harley, and he managed to get a hold of the loop of rope the chicken tossed to him. After tying the other end to the rear fender of the farmer's bike, the chicken then drove slowly forward and, with the aid of the powerful bike, rescued the horse!
Happy and proud, the chicken rode the Harley back to the farmhouse and the farmer was none the wiser when he returned. The friendship between the two animals was cemented: Best Buddies, Best Pals!
A few weeks later, the chicken fell into a mud pit and soon, he too began to sink and cried out to the horse to save his life! The horse thought a moment, walked over, and straddled the large puddle. Looking underneath, he told the chicken to grab his hangy-down thing and he would then lift him out of the pit. The chicken got a good grip, and the horse pulled him up and out, saving his life.
The moral of the story? (Yes, there's a moral!)

Food Court Musical
From http://www.ImprovEverywhere.com, 16 agents create a spontaneous musical in a food court in a Los Angeles mall. Using wireless microphones and the mall's PA system, both their voices and the music was amplified throughout the food court. All cameras were hidden behind two-way mirrors and other concealed structures.
Paradise on a Hanger
Who says you have to go to the tropics to enjoy a tropical vacation?
Open since 2004, Tropical Islands is an indoor resort, built inside a large aircraft hangar, an hour’s drive from Berlin. It’s a man-made micro-ecosystem complete with hundreds of species of plants, sandy beaches, crystal-clear waterfalls and even bird and insect sounds made by speakers disguised as boulders. It spreads over 5 million cubic meters and it is taller than the Statue of Liberty; when the sun shines outside, visitors can actually get a tan, thanks to the effect of the sunbeams penetrating the hangar’s transparent roof, even if the weather is freezing outside.
Designed by a British engineering company in Brand, south of the German capital, Tropical Islands is the latest brainchild of a Malaysian entrepreneur, Colin Au, 55, who made his money cruises and Asian resorts. He has invested £48 million in the project.
